Project Description:
Since about 1850 there has been a remarkable production of steel and since also of steel constructions.
Many of those old steel con-structions are no more there and the ones remaining from the old millennium need to be renovated and maintained with the target to keep most of the ancient steel components and not just replace them by new steel elements.
The ambitious background of this project is therefore in research of new polymeric metals (or metallic polymers) and the development of joining and interlocking technologies in order to keep the ancient con-structions wherever possible.
The project partners RWTH Aachen, Institute LMBau and TU Braun-schweig, Institute for Joining and Welding Technologies, shall develop such technologies, test them and get them approved, the partner Diamant shall formulate appropriate metal polymers and in India IGIT-IGO and the Diamant-Partner DTM shall select old steel constructions to apply the „ConstruVation“ methods and products.
The project has been sponsored since May 2007 by AiF of BMWi, consulted by Bernhard Joeckel.
